Flash Flood in Nepal and Response to Queries Regarding Assistance
Flash Flood in Nepal and Response to Queries Regarding Assistance
Nepal was struck by severe flash floods yesterday morning, resulting in loss of life, widespread displacement and extensive damage to homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure.
The Consulate General extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, prays for the speedy recovery of the injured and safe rescue of the missing.
Nepal’s security and disaster-management agencies, local authorities and health services have been fully mobilised for search and rescue, evacuation, emergency medical assistance and relief operations. Authorities are also closely monitoring river systems and downstream flood risks.
At this difficult hour, the Consulate General expresses sincere gratitude to the Government and people of the United Arab Emirates for their kind message of support and solidarity.
At this stage, our immediate priority is to save lives and support search and rescue, evacuation and relief efforts in the affected areas. In view of the extensive damage caused by the floods, the Government of Nepal will continue to assess the situation and emerging needs on the ground and, where necessary, communicate specific requirements for assistance through established official channels.
In the meantime, an appeal has been made to all to contribute to Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund and the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund through the given bank accounts.
Further updates will be issued as more information becomes available.
